Tyco Electronics' (TE) largest distribution center, located in Greensboro, NC, began operating in March 1996. With 230,000 sq. ft., 130 employees and a 7-day work week, TE is a leading global provider of engineered electronic components, network solutions, undersea telecommunication systems and wireless systems. Their Quick Access Residual Storage Model (featured in IIE magazine in 1997) allows for more frequent deliveries, smaller quantities, and shorter lead times. On this tour you'll witness advanced material handling equipment and systems technology such as:
- U-shaped flow of material
- Pallet Rack & Shelving in narrow aisle configuration ... wire guidance ...
- Miniload AS/RS (residual storage) ... loop conveyor to pickers
- Recirculation conveyor accumulates and moves zone picks to packing
- Real time WMS/EMS-Conveyor-Miniload system & physical integration ... paperless operation
- Conveyor lanes for carrier or customer segregation on the ship dock
